Matheran : Paradise of West

This is Matheran. A paradise village near Pune and nearer to Mumbai. Matheran is 95 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune. We got down at Neral, matheran is 9 km from Neral. There are three choices to reach matheran from Neral 1. toy train 2. shared cabs (Rs 50/head) 3. Trek, we went for middle one since toy train services had been stopped for monsoon. The road to matheran is well maintained but it requires some exceptional driving skills to get up there, the turns are too steep. We reached matheran in 20 mins As we entered matheran, the fresh air and nature welcomed us with rain showers. Its a no vehicle zone. All the vehicles go till Dastoori Naka, from there either people walk or hire a horse. Horse ride is itself an adventure, potentially there are no roads in Matheran, the natural red soiled roads are spilled all over matheran.

After we had our lunch in the hotel, we were all set to explore the thick woods of Sahayadri. We wanted to buy the rain coats, so we headed for market. You will find many "Y" shaped roads and initially it was hard for us to decide which road to take to get to the market, with scarce population its hard to find human trace to get right directions. But somehow we reached the market from our hotel.

The market place is quite good with lots of horses available, also one should buy sleepers(ladies) and Chocolate fudge. Two specialities of Matheran
The points one should not miss are : Charlotte Lake, Lousia Point, Lord's Point. While exploring these points one can see clear water streams downhill, lot of natural beauty which mesmerizes one's heart.
How to Reach By Pune ?
By road one can go towards mumbai and take turn from Neral. From neral one has to climb 9km uphill to Dastoori Naka(vehicles can go but at times its very steep and may test driving skills). Dastoori Naka is the last destination. From there one has to walk.
By train, Mumbai-kohlapur sahyadri express leaves pune around 7:30 am and reaches neral jn by 10:15 am. From there one can get Toy train or private shared cabs (rs 50/head) to dastoori naka.
Its a worth going place. Especially in light monsoons. Enjoy guys.

Welcome to Tequila Sunrise

Hi People, wishes from Group Tequila Sunrise (G-TequlaSunrise). Welcome. Basically this blog is an outcome of explorer's instinct. G-TequlaSunrise comprises of three diversified natured people and one cute vehicle. Let me get you all aquainted to them.

First being Ashutosh Sapre (we call him Ashu), serene and silent buddy, he's a software engg by profession but photographer by soul and works as navigator for G-TequlaSunrise trips. He has explored 70% of karnataka.Being born and brought up in Pune and keen explorer he has explored almost all near by places to Pune. So making use of his knowledgebase we reach the destination without much pains barring few "u-turns" in between which are inevitable.

Second is Priya, quite enthusiastic and smiling creature. She's very punctual and presses hard on us to move on time. She enjoys driving, most of all "u-turns". She's lecturer by profession and believes she'll make up as national geographic photographer some day. Though pond stone decided her fate that she will make it second time.

About me... name Madhur Sambhar.... i am a fellow traveller... and believes life is a journey. Enjoys what life brings in... software engg by profession and willing to do approx. everything from soul. God knows whats stored in my life. My fav' dialogues is that of Forest Gump "Life is like box of chocolates, you never know what's next"

In this blog we'll be briefing about different places we explore.... till then BON VOYAGE to all the fellow travellers
